Steady energy, naturally. Amez (“satisfaction” in Assamese) is a ready-to-mix breakfast made from just four ingredients: rice, pulses, sesame and peanut. It was formulated by food scientist Dr. Basanti Baroova and is processed the traditional Assamese way, so its starch digests slowly and keeps you going through the morning.

What's inside

Rice, pulses, sesame, peanut. That's the whole list. No added sugar, salt, colours, flavours or preservatives.

Why it lasts

  • Resistant starch. Traditional processing raises the grains' resistant starch, a kind of starch that is digested slowly, so energy is released gradually instead of all at once.
  • A balanced plate in one bowl. Cereals, pulses, nuts and oilseeds together, following the ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) principle of a balanced meal.
  • Minimally processed. The grains keep their own flavour and colour. Plant-based and naturally lightly sweet, with no added sugar.

How to make it

  1. Add 3 level scoops (about 25 g) to a bowl.
  2. Pour in 150–200 ml of water or milk.
  3. Mix well and enjoy.

Naani's tip: roll it into laddoos for the tiffin, or sprinkle it over a salad. Share your version with @nutrinaani.

The ICMR balanced plate

Cereals, pulses, nuts and oilseeds in one bowl, following the Indian Council of Medical Research's principle of a balanced meal.

iii.

Nothing added to hide behind

No added sugar, salt, colours, flavours or preservatives. What's on the front of the pack is what's in the bowl.

  • Plant-based
