Our story

Fifty years of food science. One very stubborn naani.

Dr. Basanti Baroova led the Department of Food Science & Nutrition at Assam Agricultural University, created the micronutrient-fortified Assam Mix baby cereal, and was honoured nationally as the Food Hero of India. At 74, she started her own company to put the best of that work in a bowl.

Meet the Original NutriNaani

The OG NutriNaani is Dr. Basanti Baroova: nutritionist, grandmother, and Food Hero of India. She has spent a lifetime understanding not just what food does to the body, but what food means to people: to families, to culture, to identity.

For more than fifty years she worked in food science and public health. She headed the Department of Food Science & Nutrition at Assam Agricultural University, served as Research Professor at NIFTEM, Guwahati, and created the micronutrient-fortified Assam Mix baby cereal from four decades of research. At 74, she started NutriNaani.

She is the reason NutriNaani exists.

The Real Crisis

We talk a lot about ultra-processed food as the villain. But the deeper crisis is something quieter: we have forgotten how good our own foods are.

Generations of Indians ate rice, dal, local green leafs, millets, and seasonal fruits and vegetables, and were nourished in ways that modern nutritional science is only now beginning to fully understand. The problem isn't just that junk food is everywhere. It's that we stopped adapting our traditional foods to our modern lifestyles, and stopped trusting what we already had. We lost the knowledge of how to strike a balance: between tradition and modernity, between indulgence and nourishment, between what we love and what keeps us well.

NutriNaani exists to bring that balance back. Bas! Ab Naani sambhalegi.

Stories from the Naanis

Every family has a Naani (a grandmother, an aunt, a neighbour) who knew exactly what to feed you when you were unwell, tired, or just needed comfort. Their knowledge was passed down through kitchens, not classrooms.

NutriNaani will collect and celebrate those stories. We will bring voices from Naanis across India (their recipes, their remedies, their wisdom) and place them alongside modern nutritional science, so that what was always true can finally be understood and shared at scale.

This is not nostalgia. This is a movement to celebrate our food heritage in scientific terms, and to prove, rigorously, that what our grandmothers knew was right.

What We Do

NutriNaani makes 100% natural foods from traditional Indian ingredients, starting with Amez (“satisfaction” in Assamese): a breakfast mix of rice, pulses, sesame and peanut, processed the traditional way so it releases energy slowly. More breakfast mixes and drinks are on the way.

What We Promise

  • Short ingredient lists. If Naani wouldn't keep it in her kitchen, it doesn't go in the pack.
  • Nothing added to hide behind. No added sugar, salt, colours, flavours or preservatives.
  • Science first. Every recipe is formulated by a food scientist and calculated to NIN, ICMR guidelines.
  • Made in Assam. Every pack is made by NutriNaani Pvt. Ltd. in Guwahati.

Every product is made with the same care a Naani would bring: no shortcuts, no compromises, and always with your long-term wellbeing in mind.

Welcome to NutriNaani. Your Naani would approve.
